Welcome to the Two Rivers Mindfulness Institute

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.

Mindfulness Meditation in Monmouth County New Jersey

The Two Rivers Mindfulness Institute provides education and training in mindfulness-based approaches to addressing the impact of stress reactivity on physical, behavioral, and mental health.  While each participant’s experience is unique, published research has shown changes like these are common:

  • Better sleep
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression
  • Improved pain management
  • Responding skillfully to stressors
  • Increased self-compassion
  • Enhanced focus, concentration, and resilience
  • Improved emotional regulation and reduced rumination

Mindfulness was first introduced into mainstream medicine by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, who described it as paying attention in a specific way—deliberately, in the present moment, and without judgment.

Whenever we become aware of what we are directly experiencing through our senses, environment, bodies, or our mental state via thoughts and emotions, we are practicing mindfulness. An increasing amount of research shows that when we train our brains with mindfulness practices, the brain changes in ways that reduce stress reactivity, which can overwhelm the mind and body.

Mindfulness for All

We all naturally have the ability for mindfulness. Stability can be developed by cultivating presence, compassion, and awareness. The Two Rivers Mindfulness Institute offers guidance on maintaining a consistent mindfulness practice and integrating it into daily life. The programs and classes offered by the institute aim to help people customize the practices to fit their unique lives.

Testimonials

The course taught me not only to do, but also to be. Be in the moment, slow things down, and live in the moment, good or bad. Life is not a race, and I was always looking to the future (with anxiety or judgment as to what I perceived was going to happen) and not living the moment fully.  I have become better at being.

-DG

I’ve become more self-aware of my emotions and responses, also when I’m feeling stressed, I know I can always turn to the practice of meditation, even honing in on my breath for a c minutes, to come back to the present.
-SG

I’m using parts of what I’ve learned daily, and often in the moment. I’ve also learned that I can effectively be still for longer periods of time. That doesn’t mean I’m not inclined to wiggle occasionally. I’m actually counting on the depth and wisdom of mindfulness to continue, and be truly life-changing.
-TB

This is hands-down the single best thing I’ve ever done for myself, and I am incredibly grateful for all that I learned. I am really looking forward to building on the practices going forward.
